Costco Wholesale hopes to build a new warehouse store in Newbury Park in the Seventh Day Adventist Specific Plan Area off Wendy Drive, north of the 101 Freeway.

Costco filed entitlement permit applications with the city of Thousand Oaks on Fri., Nov. 3 for construction of a 153,148-square-foot membership wholesale store and gasoline station at 915 Estates Drive in Newbury Park. The project site is about 18.32 acres, according to senior planner Jonathon Shepherd.

"We've been looking at that property for a long time," said Shawn Parks, Costco regional vice president.

The Oxnard and Westlake Village stores have reached their full capacity, Parks said. The Westlake Village store is one of their best stores and is being renovated but cannot be expanded, he said.

If the new store gets approved, it will have all the bells and whistles, with a larger deli, an expanded fresh foods area and more major appliances. If everything goes as hoped, a new Costco could be in place by next fall, Parks said. Westlake Village City Manager Ron Taylor said Costco has provided valuable tax revenue and is a good corporate neighbor.                                                                                                             --Nancy Needham
