Guitarist Pepe Romero to perform in concert with New West Symphony
Guitarist Pepe Romero will make his New West Symphony debut in the third Masterpiece Series concert of the 200607 season. The first performance will take place at 8 p.m. Fri., Nov. 10 at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center, 800 Hobson Way, Oxnard.
The program will be repeated at 8 p.m. Sat., Nov. 11 at the Countrywide Performing Arts Center at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, 2100 Thousand Oaks Blvd.
Romero is celebrated worldwide for his virtuosity, interpretations and technique. His father, Celedonio Romero, with whom he shared the stage in his professional debut at the age of 7, was his only teacher. Romero has appeared, both as a recitalist and as a soloist with the major orchestras, in concert halls around the world. He has had numerous works written for him and has recorded extensively.
The program will include Georges Bizet's Symphony No. 1 in C Major; the Concerto in D Major of Lute and Orchestra, R. 93 by Antonio Vivaldi; Joaquin Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez for Guitar and Orchestra; and Symphony No. 45 in F-sharp Minor, "Farewell" by Joseph Haydn. New West Symphony music director Boris Brott will conduct the program.
Tickets are priced from $25 to $93 at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza and $25 to $75 at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center and are available by phone, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday at (800) NEW-WEST. Tickets are also available in person at the New West Symphony office, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the concert hall box offices during their regular business hours and on the website www.newwestsymphony.org.
Preconcert discussions, called Informances, with music raconteur Charles McDermott and members of the orchestra, begin at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evenings. Informances are free and open to ticket holders for the evening's performance.
