CLU plans forum on hunger, homelessness, cost of living

California Lutheran University will present the second annual Community Forum on homelessness and hunger in the Conejo Valley from 7 to 9 p.m. Tues., Nov. 14 at the university's PreusBrandt Forum.

Topics to be covered include how to get involved, how hard it is to make ends meet, and the consequences of the continued rise in the cost of living.

The ethical reality of poverty will be discussed as will the need for social programs for those affected.

According to statistics provided by Lutheran Social Services, the hourly wage needed to afford a twobedroom apartment in Ventura County is more than $22.23 per hour; the average apartment in the Conejo Valley rents for more than $1,500 per month; 53 percent of individuals with no place to stay are women with children.

less and Hunger Awareness Week and is co-sponsored by MANNA Food Pantry of the Conejo Valley, Catholic Charities, California Lutheran University/Office of Campus Ministry, Food Share of Ventura County, the Ventura County Homeless and Housing Coalition and Lutheran Social Services.
