Buddhist Center hosts fall programs BodhiPath Buddhist Center, established in Santa Barbara in 1997, will offer to the community introductory courses in meditation, a weekend retreat on Chenrezig (the practice of love and compassion), classes on the Buddhist path and daily life, and more, Nov. 9 through 30. The center is at 113 W. Gutierrez St., behind Pollero Factory Outlet, Santa Barbara. The classes, at a cost of $10 each, include the following: Introduction to the Three Jewels and Refuge, taught by Bart Mendel, Director of BodhiPath Buddhist Center, Thurs., Nov. 9 from 7 to 9 p.m. The Fifth Paramita: Mental Stability: A Mind Settled In Virtue, two Thursdays, Nov. 16 and 30, from 7 to 9 p.m. Newcomers: Meeting a True Friend: Introduction to the Dharma and Meditation Practice, Sat., Nov. 18 from 10 a.m. to noon. The weekend retreat, "Chenrezig: Practice of Love and Compassion," will be Fri. through Sun., Nov. 10 through 12. The commuter cost is $250 and residential cost is $310. Lama DawaTarchin will lead the retreat. Activities include group practice and in-depth teachings on Chenrezig, described by organizers as "a joyful melodious practice of enlightened compassion." Lama Dawa is an ordained Buddhist monk and has completed two consecutive three-year meditation retreats. He teaches the Dharma throughout Europe and the U.S., offering guidance and instruction to those on the spiritual path.
