A special memorial service honoring the late Rev. Dr. Raymond Olson will be held at 10 a.m. Fri., Nov. 17 in Samuelson Chapel at California Lutheran University.

Olson, the second president of California Lutheran College, died on Oct. 21 at the age of 96. Funeral services were held at Ascension Lutheran Church on Oct. 27.

Olson served as president for eight years after founding president Orville Dahl stepped down in 1963.

A former General Secretary for Stewardship for the American Lutheran Church, Olson came to the Thousand Oaks college with his wife, Helen, in 1963, just two years after the school opened.

Named president emeritus in 1983, Olson always remained closely connected and very supportive of the university. As members of Ascension Lutheran Church in Thousand Oaks, the Olsons have been involved in numerous projects in the Lutheran Church and in the Thousand Oaks community.
