Free holiday weekend shuttle service
The National Park Service announced that the ParkLINK shuttle will add a full day of transit service on Fri., Nov. 10, and the shuttle will be free of charge to everyone on Nov. 10, 11 and 12 in honor of America's veterans. ParkLINK is a shuttle service that connects more than a dozen sites in the Santa Monica Mountains and beaches.
The route has stops at Malibu Creek State Park, Paramount Ranch, Peter Strauss
Ranch, Zuma Beach, Point Dume, Solstice Canyon, Pepperdine University, Malibu Lagoon, Cross Creek shopping area in Malibu, Tapia Park and two trailheads of the Backbone Trail. The shuttle connects to the Metro 534 along the Pacific Coast Highway and to the Metro 161 in Calabasas, which connects to the Metro Orange Line several times a day.
The ParkLINK shuttles are equipped with bike racks and storage space for large group outings.
Many first-time riders use the shuttle as a way to get oriented to the various stops along the route, according to Woody Smeck, superintendent of Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. "Then they return for a more in-depth visit including nature walks or hikes, picnics, and to learn more about the parks," he said.
ParkLINK runs year-round on Saturdays, Sundays and some holidays. Fare is normally $1 per person per ride. Children under 12 ride free if accompanied by an adult. All Metro passes are accepted.
