Goldman has the right priorities

Jerry Goldman volunteers 100 hours per month to our local disaster-preparedness organizations because he wants the city's residents to be safe in the event of a major disaster. The Oct. 15 earthquake in Hawaii is a reminder that, even in paradise, natural disasters will occur. That's why Jerry is running for City Council. Jerry's the only one who's talking about disaster preparedness as a campaign issue.

Watch the replays of the debates on TOTV, if you can find them. Here's what you'll see: candidates debating whether they are for "slow growth" or "really slow growth."

I wonder what triviality or term parsing New Orleans was debating when they might have devoted more time and energy to preparing for a natural disaster? Do you feel prepared for a natural disaster? I sure didn't before I met Jerry Goldman. I really didn't want to think about it. We're lucky that people like Jerry want to run for office to help the rest of us be prepared.

Do you have a plan, a checklist, the equipment, anything? Do you think the city should devote some time and energy to make sure we are as prepared as we can be in the event the seismologists are correct? I definitely don't want to see natural selection play out in real time here in Thousand Oaks because we were too busy debating the difference between "slow growth" and "really slow growth." Out of all the tough choices you'll face on Nov 7, casting one of your three votes for Jerry Goldman is one of the easiest choices on the ballot, once you know what separates him from the crowd.
