Get rid of Fox and Gillette

The letter-writing campaign of Andy Fox and Dennis Gillette supporters would have you believe that these two incumbent candidates for Thousand Oaks City Council are future saints.

Before the cornerstone of their altar is reserved, voters should consider some recent actions by Fox and Gillette.

Fox and Gillette approved an oversized parking structure by an Auto Mall dealer after our city's planning commission unanimously rejected the proposal. Can you believe the Auto Mall dealers are big contributors to their campaigns now? Conveniently, construction only just started so voters won't be seeing it rise along the 101 until well after the election.

Fox and Gillette handpicked a political supporter to fill the late Ed Masry's seat for three more years instead of letting the voters choose their own leader. An election could have been held but Fox and Gillette voted it down. Afterwards, when given the opportunity to allow voters to decide whether the City Council should make similar appointments or hold elections for future vacancies, Fox and Gillette voted it down as well. Obviously, power is something they just don't want to share with ordinary folk.

Fox coerced a backroom resignation of a 40year public servant from city government that eventually led to a grand jury investigation that found the City Council has a public impression of exhibiting "underhandedness, poor judgment and lack of professionalism."

Fox and Gillette tried to go back on their promises regarding the equestrian center at Two Winds Ranch. After being exposed with embarrassing newspaper advertisements, they forced hundreds of residents to wait until almost 2 a.m. to complain at a council meeting before finally relenting.

Do we want these "saints" to remain on our council? If Thousand Oaks had a term-limit law we wouldn't be discussing this.

Vote them out. John Fonti Thousand Oaks
