Laser Eye Center uses new device to improve eyes The Laser Eye Center is among the first refractive surgery centers to make the new stateofthe-art LADAR6000 Excimer Laser available in Southern California for vision correction procedures. The laser was recently approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for Lasik and PRK refractive surgery, and for the wavefront-guided treatment of farsightedness with or without astigmatism. With the new laser now installed in five surgical centers, Laser Eye Center will be among the first to offer laser vision correction with the wavefront-guided CustomCornea procedure to people who are farsighted, those who have difficulty seeing objects close up. Previously, only people affected by nearsightedness, those who have difficulty seeing objects at a distance, could be treated with CustomCornea. "The addition of the new LADAR6000 laser to our practice provides us with a unique opportunity to meet a broad spectrum of our patients' vision correction needs," said one of the center's surgeons. "Roughly one-fourth of the population is affected by farsightedness, and with the use of the CustomCornea procedure in the treatment of farsighted patients we can ensure that they enjoy the same successes that our nearsighted patients have realized." According to the center's surgeons, the excimer laser reduces the amount of time required to perform the procedure.
