Channelaire Chorus Sweet Adelines sing their way into top 10 for finals

Award-winning Channelaire Chorus, a countywide women's choral group committed to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony, has qualified to participate in the 2007 Sweet Adelines International annual competition and were awarded ninth place medals.

Thirtythree of the best regional choruses and 49 quartets from around the world competed at the Thomas & Mack convention center in Las Vegas. Channelaire achieved their highest scores ever. Scores are based on four components: sound, expression, music and showmanship.

"The competition was extremely tough this year-five of the competitors were all previous gold medal (first place) winners," said co-director Bobbette Gantz. "It's so satisfying to be part of this high achieving group of performers and to be ranked ninth out of 600 choruses worldwide."

"Hearing our name called as one of the top ten finalists was a thrill-especially since we knew we were competing with the best of the best," said co-director Judy Ashmore.

Channelaire Chorus was organized in Ventura County in 1962 by a group of 20. Today, the chorus has more than 110 members,
