Foundation selects finalists
The Conejo/Las Virgenes Fu- ture Foundation will host the sixth annual CLvFFie Awards on Sun., Nov. 5, at the Janet and Ray Scherr Forum Theater at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza.
The CLvFFie ((pronounced cliffie) Awards honor individu- als and groups in the Conejo/Las Virgenes region in various cat- egories.
According to CLvFFie co- chair Jeff Blum, more than 40 applications were submitted from the communities of Calabasas to Newbury Park for this year's awards.
"Our region has so many dedicated individuals and groups working toward keeping this area an ideal place to live and work," Blum said. "The caliber of the nominees makes choosing our fi- nalists a very difficult job."
Finalists have been selected in the following categories:
The Arts: The Kingsmen Shakespeare Company, Cabrillo Music Theater and Kyle Luck
Education: Dick Durand, Debra Frank, Debra King and Miriam Sprankling
Community Service/Indi- viduals: Gary Finefrock, Greg LeGore, and co-nominees Grace Goryoka and Alyssa Burns
Community Service/Orga- nizations: Assistance League of Conejo Valley, My Stuff Bags Foundation, Thousand Oaks Kiwanis, Roger Ewing/Ewing & Associates Sotheby's Interna- tional Realty, Bob McCord/ Owner-Sagebrush Cantina and John C. Woodward Sr./Westoaks Chrysler Dodge
Health Care: Jean Gordon, Isa Brente Shekter and Long Term Care of Ventura County- Ombudsman will also be hon- ored.
According to the foundation's executive director, Fran Brough, the CLvFFie ceremony is simi- lar to other awards presentations like the Oscars, Grammys and Emmys. One recipient from each category was selected by secret ballot to receive the foundation's top honor-the CLvFFie Award, which will be presented at the November event.
The organization is beginning its 35th year as an apolitical, non- profit "think tank" organization dedicated to the study of issues important to people and busi- nesses across the region.
The foundation sponsors the annual Youth Congress for high school students, Senior Con- gress, and a variety of forums in- cluding the recent "Financing Our Region's Future," and "A Day in Your Life in 2016." On Jan. 31 the group will present "Roadmapping Your Future- Plan While You Can" as part of the Senior Congress.
Other forums have addressed affordable housing, community spirit, workforce development and continuing education.
"We would like to encourage everyone interested in the qual- ity of life in the Conejo/Las Virgenes corridor to join us at this special event honoring those who have made a difference," said Steve Wiley, foundation chairman.
Members of the community are welcome to attend the event, Brough said, though space is lim- ited.
KNX 1070 radio personality Randy Kerdoon will be the mas- ter of ceremonies. Entertainment will be provided by A Class Act from Westlake High School and the Agoura High School Ellington Jazz Band.
