Newbury Park High gets bomb threat

Police continued to investigate a bomb threat yesterday after someone called Newbury Park High School Tuesday night and left a message that a bomb on campus was set to go off on Wednesday.

Bomb-squad dogs were on site by mid-morning, searching for explosive devices, according to Capt. Ron Nelson.

Parents and students were notified Wednesday morning by an automated phone service.

Students already on campus were kept in a safe area while authorities conducted their search.

Kids were permitted to go home if a parent or guardian went to school to pick them up.

Law enforcement officers "most definitely give threats more scrutiny," Nelson said, in the wake of 9/11 and Columbine and other acts of violence at schools across the country.
