Commission on Human Concerns needs 2 new boardmembers The Ventura County Commission on Human Concerns, Ventura County's community action agency since 1965, is seeking both a low-income sector board member and an alternate board member to represent low-income residents in the second supervisory district. The term begins in November and ends in June 2009. Residents of the second district who are 18 years or older are encouraged to apply. The district includes the communities of Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, Westlake Village, Lynn Ranch, Oak Park, Santa Rosa Valley, Bell Canyon, Hidden Valley and Lake Sherwood. The commission is a private, nonprofit charitable organization whose mission is helping people through advocacy and services that promote dignity and self-sufficiency. The organization provides services throughout Ventura County, including home weatherization programs, energy assistance programs, legal services, and rental and lease information to help prevent homelessness. Applications will be accepted from eligible candidates through the close of business on Mon., Sept. 25. Applications are available at local area partner agency offices or by calling the commission headquarters office at (805) 436-4000. Applicant interviews will be completed by Oct. 9.
