Brent Moore, WR, Westlake: Moore, a junior, hauled in six receptions for 95 yards in the Warriors' 44-7 season-opening whitewashing of Basic at home. He averaged 15.8 yards per catch.

Oaks Christian defense: New year, same results for the OCHS defense, as the Lions shutout Lompoc, 49-0, in their first game of the season. USC-bound defensive back Marshall Jones logged an interception, blocked punt and also scored a pair of touchdowns.

Westlake defense: Led by defensive tackle Tyrone Duncan, linebacker Chase Calderon and cornerback Byron Sells, the Warriors held Basic scoreless for the first three quarters of play.
