Caller I.D. system is being sabotaged

We've been having a problem for a couple of years now where irate people keep calling us and saying that their caller ID identified us as having called them, sometimes repeatedly.

A couple of people have become quite nasty about it because they thought we were harassing them.

We called the phone company and they said it's a practice called "spoofing," where unethical sales companies call people, but somehow fix it so that someone else's number shows up on caller ID.

It's very annoying for us as well as the people who are receiving the calls, but the telephone company has said, at the present time, there's nothing they can do about it. All we can do is change our phone number and hope the problem goes away. Glynn Masterman Newbury Park
