Horse lovers get ready for a special day

ETI (Equestrian Trails Inc) Corral 37/Conejo Riders will host their second annual "Day of the Horse" event at 10 a.m. Sat., Sept. 9 at Conejo Creek Equestrian Park, 1300 Avenida de Las Flores, Thousand Oaks. The free event is a celebration of the local equestrian lifestyle. Informative and educational programs on different horse breeds, disciplines and usage will be presented by the corral's members.

The Conejo Riders drill team will perform in full dress. The junior drill team, ages 7 to 17, will also perform. The Whippersnappers Driving Club will present a driving demonstration. Andrea Caldwell of Oasis Ranch will be showing the versatility of the Arabian horse; there will also be an exhibition of gymkhana, hunterjumper and dressage, plus a demonstration by participants in the Ride-On therapeutic horsemanship program.

Free pony rides will be offered in the morning and sword fighting and whip tricks on horseback will be presented in the afternoon, according to Barbara Kloster, event chairperson. A shoeing demonstration is scheduled for noon. Continuous entertainment begins at 10 a.m.

Booths will be manned by 4H and Pony Club members. The Conejo Riders' barbecue team will prepare a meal for purchase, with proceeds to be donated to Ride-On. Feed store owners, a veterinarian and others will be on hand.
