Council on Aging to hear about financial abuse of senior citizens The Thousand Oaks Council on Aging will begin its 2006-07 meeting schedule at 1 p.m. Wed., Sept. 6 with guest speakers Detective Mike Hartmann of the Ventura County Sheriff's Department and Joan Virginia Allen, coordinator of the Ventura County Financial Abuse Specialist Team, a program of Conejo Valley Senior Concerns. The council will meet in the board room at the Thousand Oaks City Hall. The program will include a 23minute video, "Fighting Financial Fraud," which dramatizes common types of financial schemes and scams that target seniors, and demonstrates how to avoid becoming a victim. The meeting will be televised live on TOTV, Channel 10. This event is part of a series of Council of Aging programs focusing on specific issues of concern to seniors. Televised meetings are on the first Wednesday of each month. Workshop meetings are the third Wednesday of each month at 1 p.m. in the Lupine Room of the Goebel Senior Adult Center, 1365 E. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks. Senior adults are encouraged to attend both the meetings and the workshops, and may speak during the public comments period.
