Law firm's free roundtable discussions to focus on business laws Local business owners will learn the importance of staying up-to-date on wage and hour laws at the first in a series of free roundtable seminars offered by Ventura County's largest law firm, Nordman Cormany Hair & Compton LLP. Senior partner Jonathan Fraser Light and of counsel Lou Cappadona will discuss overtime laws, meal and rest breaks, rounding of time, payroll cycles and pay stubs, final paychecks, commissions and bonuses. The discussion will be from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Tues., Sept. 12 at Los Robles Greens Golf Course, 299 S. Moorpark Road, Thousand Oaks. A continental breakfast will be served. "Every business is affected by these basic employment laws, and staying up-to-date will help business owners avoid litigation in the future," Light said. Future seminars on Oct. 17, Nov. 15, Jan. 23, Feb. 13 and March 28 will cover such topics as privacy, Internet law, new 2007 employment laws, leaves of absence and ADA compliance. The small-group, roundtable sessions focus on the particular issues relevant to participants' businesses. The firm's attorneys provide an overview of the topic, cover the latest developments, illustrate the legal principles with practical examples and answer questions. Light has 25 years of experience in the field of employment law, consulting with more than 200 companies throughout California on their day-to-day employment law needs. He's experienced in jury trial lawsuits involving wrongful termination, sex harassment, race discrimination and other employment-related matters. Cappadona's practice covers a broad spectrum of traditional labor and employment law. He regularly represents employers before federal and state agencies and advises employers in union negotiations.
