Women's club plans for a busy year

The newly installed executive officers of the Westlake Women's Club have started planning for the upcoming year. The club will officially open for 2006-07 with its first meeting, Community Recipients Day, at 10 a.m. Tues., Sept. 12 at the Westlake Village Inn, 31943 Agoura Road, Westlake Village.

"Club volunteers annually raise money for charity via community fundraisers . . . and September marks the distribution of these funds to nonprofit organizations," said Cate Brown, elected president for a second term.

Other officers include Karen Bradley, first vice president; Helene Ross and Doris Rufener, co-second vice presidents; Kay Baumbach, third vice president; Edna Dubbury, treasurer; Ann Nelson, financial secretary; Barbara Oliver, recording secretary; Ruth Diehl, corresponding secretary and Cathy Stewart, parliamentarian.

Westlake Women's Club evening section officers include Karen Bradley, chairman; Jessica

Paisley, co-chairman; Evon Rubenstein, secretary, and Linda Schottell, treasurer.

The club's 25th annual Holiday Fantasy Gala fundraiser is scheduled for Thurs., Nov. 30 at the new Four Seasons Hotel in Westlake.

Other events scheduled for the new club year are Summer Wine Down at the Westlake Yacht Club on Sun., Aug. 27 and the annual Fashions on Parade on April 27, 2007 at the Hyatt Hotel in partnership with The Oaks mall.

Club meetings are at 10 a.m. on the second Tuesday on the month, September through June, at the Westlake Village Inn. The meetings are open to the public and require advance reservations for lunch.

Founded in 1968, the club is a federated, all-volunteer organization that annually raises and allocates thousand of dollars to local, regional and national charities through its many community fundraisers.

In the past year, the rapidly growing club increased its membership and its charitable giving by more than 25 percent. The club has been a leader in the community for 35 years.
