Art proposals sought

The Ventura Music Festival is seeking proposals from local artists for a collection of 12 art pieces that will be commissioned by the festival to promote its 2007 season, titled "Impressions." The upcoming musical season will showcase the lushly complex music of the French Impressionist age.

Direction and inspiration for the artwork for the 2007 season is the Impressionist art

movement of the time, with its characteristic themes of lightcolor and motion. Art pieces may be either wall-mounted or free-standing sculpture, and proposals will be reviewed by a selection panel, which will make its decisions based on the artist's professional qualifications, artistic merit as evidenced by the submitted materials, concept and inclusion of the theme.

The selected projects will be featured in a traveling exhibition at public venues throughout Ventura County. The show will begin with a festive unveiling event and culminate with a live auction at the annual gala in March, with proceeds going to support the Ventura Music Festival.
