A 'Celebration of Peace' to be presented at Westlake Church of Religious Science

A "Celebration of Peace" will be presented at 7 p.m. Thurs., Aug. 17 at the Westlake Church of Religious Science, 880 Hampshire Road, Westlake Village.

The event is sponsored by the Ventura County Peace Cell to introduce the "Program for Peacemakers" developed by bestselling author Deepak Chopra.

Admission is free and the public is welcome to attend.

Speakers include the Rev. Kusala Bhikshu, Lindsay Leimbach, Dr. Dennis Merritt Jones, the Rev. Jim Lockard, the Revs. Wayne and Andrea Sebera and others.

Local spiritual artist Cherie Deeds will provide inspirational live music with group participation. Author and television personality Lissa Coffey will lead a guided peace meditation.

The Ventura County Peace Cell is a gathering of people who seek, support and promote peace and compassion within their lives and throughout the world.

A "peace cell" contains small groups of like-minded individuals supporting policies, causes and actions that favor a respect for life, human dignity, freedom, ecological sustainability and peace, according to event organizers.

This concept was originally developed by Chopra and is featured in his book "Peace Is the Way."

The movement is now supported by the Alliance for a New Humanity, an organization representing more than 80 nations. The concept is said to be rapidly growing within the worldwide spiritual community.
