T.O. Big Leaguers headed to World Series . . . again

The Big League team from Thousand Oaks seems to really enjoy the Palmetto State.

With a 10-0 win in Ollala, Wash., over the District 57 team from San Ramon Valley, T.O.'s 17and 18-year-old squad is going to South Carolina to play in the Big League World Series for the second year in a row and third time in the last four years.

"Right now we are really excited," outfielder Kellen Fink said. "We went to South Carolina last year, and now with a little more experience, we are hoping to win it this year."

Manager Ed Kitchen said T.O.'s success comes from the great practice sessions they've had recently.

Thousand Oaks received plenty of clutch hits to win in five innings Tuesday by way of the mercy rule, including a key two-run double with one out in the third inning by Fink.

With Chad Smith on the mound, that was all Thousand Oaks would need. Smith went the full five innings, allowing just three hits.

"He (Smith) was overpowering today," Fink said. "Chad was just blowing everybody away."

Thousand Oaks will leave Washington for South Carolina on Thursday. They'll play their World Series opener July 29 against Puerto Rico.

Thousand Oaks was World Series runners-up in 2003 and 2005.
