Enroll soon for Harry Potter camp
The third J.K. Rowling book, "The Prisoner of Azkaban," will be the focus of a weeklong Harry Potter Wizardry and Literacy Camp in Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks. Hogwarts Summer School will have students ages 8 to 12 reading, journaling, creating wizard hats and wands, sampling treats from the kitchen at Hogwarts and playing games.
Camp director Roxanne Diesel is an associate member of the American Camp Association and has been a camp director and instructor for more than 16 years. She's joined by Sarah Johnson, camp director; Cassie Johnson and Katie Deutz, camp counselors; and several assistant counselors.
"This is a fun camp for any Harry Potter fan," said Diesel. "Last year, the kids loved being sorted into either Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw houses and working on all the special Hogwarts activities we had planned."
The Harry Potter Wizardry and Literacy Camp is offered in the following locations: halfday camp is July 31 to Aug. 4, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Rancho Simi Community Amphitheater at the corner of Erringer and Royal in Simi Valley.
