Youth soccer camp at Westlake
Local soccer coaches Bill Propster and Frank Marino will conduct a soccer camp for ages 5 to 13 from July 31 to Aug. 4 at Westlake High School. Hours are 9 a.m. to noon.
The cost is $115. The camp will focus on improving skills for the upcoming season.
The camp focuses on teaching ball control and dribbling, shooting, passing and receiving, and fundamental tactics while playing fun small-sided games.
During these games the players will get hundreds of touches on the ball in a competitive situation. A different skill is emphasized each day.
Propster is the boys' soccer coach at Westlake High School and Marino is the girls' soccer coach. Both also coach at local colleges and youth clubs and each has more than 20 years of coaching and playing experience.
They have U. S. Soccer Federation Coaching licenses and have coached players and teams at all levels, from the 5-year-old beginner to elite Olympic development program and college players. Local college, high school and club soccer coaches and players will assist them.
Their aim is to send participants back to their teams as better, more knowledgeable players. This is the 11th year of the camp, and past campers have used their new skills to advantage with AYSO, club and school soccer teams.
For the youngest participants, creative play will blend with developing basic ball skills.
Older, more experienced participants will receive technical and tactical instruction.
