The Canine Adoption and Rescue League will host its ninth annual Pooch Parade and Pet Expo from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sun., July 23 at San Buenaventura State Beach Park in Ventura.

The league is a nonprofit corporation that rescues unwanted, abandoned and homeless dogs of all breeds and places them in prescreened caring, loving homes.

Registration for the dog walk will start at 8:30 a.m.; registrants need to have $35 to $50 in pledges to participate. The walk will begin at 10 a.m.

In addition to the dog walk, there will be pet-related vendors, dog rescue groups, a large silent auction (from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.), dog contests, demonstra

tions by dogs catching flying Frisbees, agility dogs, the Ventura Police Department K-9 Unit, and other activities will be offered.

Dogs on leashes are welcome; however, retractable leashes are not allowed. There is no admission charge (other than for registered walkers). Day of event parking is $8. For more information, call (805) 652-1001.
