V.C. Sports Hall of Fame to induct five

The Ventura County Sports Hall of Fame will host its 24th Annual Induction Banquet Sun., June 11.

Five new members will be honored: Don McLean (Simi Valley High, UCLA), Eric Wynalda (Westlake High, San Diego State), Kathy "Kat" Slaten-Ayala (La Reina School, Cal State Northridge), Teresa Palmisano (Buena High, Cal-Berkeley) and Andres Herrera (Santa Clara High, UCLA).

The Hall will also recognize a male and female athlete of the year from 25 high schools, three junior colleges and California Lutheran University.

These students are nominated by their administrators and represent a combination of athletic and academic excellence.

The average GPA of 49 high schoolers last year was 3.95.

This year the local reps are: Moorpark's Paige Peterson and Eric Bodjanac, Simi Valley's Brittany Asplund and Lorne Bell, and Camarillo's Lauren Erb and Ted Price.
