The Goebel Senior Adult Center has a wide variety of offerings this month. The center is at 1385 E. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks. Call Rachel Cowen for reservations and/or more details on their schedule of events at (805) 381-2744. The following are some of June's special programs.
A life-writing workshop will be taught from 2 to 3 p.m. Thurs., June 8. At the "Look into Yourself" program, participants led by instructor Louise Cabral will explore some of the memories that have affected their lives and led participants to their current status in life. Marty Albert will kick off a new class called "The Art of Humor" from 2:15 to 3:45 p.m. Thursdays beginning June 8. Albert will explore the role of humor as conveyed through story, song, poetry and performance. Open to adults of all
ages, the free class will feature an interactive discussion offering examples of film, comics, readings and songs as participants weigh what they consider to be humorous and why. Among the funnymen to be studied are Woody Allen, Mel Brooks, George Carlin, Alan Sherman, and Neil Simon.
The center's billiards players will host a chicken barbecue from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Sat., June 24. The cost is $6 and tickets are available for purchase at the center.
From 3:30 to 5 p.m. Mon., June 26, the center will host an animal contest open to adults and children ages 4 and older. Participation is free. Pet lovers are invited to bring and show off their pets in categories that include biggest/smallest, best hair, most unique, most talented, owner/pet look-alike, tail wagger and best of show.
