NPHS to stage modern rock opera

based on 'Aida'

The Newbury Park Theater Boosters will present a modern rock opera based on Verdi's 1871 work "Aida." This musical will be performed at 7 p.m. Thurs. to Sat., May 18 to 20 and Thurs. and Fri., May 25 and 26, with a 2 p.m. show on Sun., May 21, in the school's Performing Arts Center, 456 Reino Road, Newbury Park.

"Aida" is a classic love triangle of loyalty and betrayal set in ancient Egypt. The Tony award-winning show features music by Elton John and lyrics by Tim Rice with many popular musical styles including reggae, gospel and pop along with ballads.

The production is a collaborative effort by various NPHS departments and features a cast of 48 student singers and dancers plus a jazz orchestra with nine students.
