Christian organization to host community service program
The organization Area Christians Taking Initiative on Needs (ACTION) will host its third annual Ventura County community service program on Sat., June 3. The event is intended to benefit both individuals and agencies that are in need. More than 1,500 congregation members from more than 40 area churches will unite together to paint, landscape, serve elderly and disabled residents, and provide cleanup and practical help.
ACTION was created by a group of Ventura County churches: Bible Fellowship Church, Vineyard Community Church, EV Free Church of the Conejo Valley and Calvary Community Church. It was formed after leaders from those churches attended an event called "Agents of Grace" in November 2003.
During the last two years, a partnership of churches stretching from Agoura Hills to Ventura has been formed.
Projects are directed to ACTION by a variety of nonprofit agencies, churches, schools, individuals, and senior agencies. This year, there are more than 40 different entities that have provided projects for this out
reach day including Area Housing Authority, Lutheran Social Services, Catholic Charities, Ventura County Rescue Mission, Interface, Lighthouse Emergency Shelter, Habitat for Humanity, Tender Life Maternity Homes, Casa Pacifica, Senior Concerns and Conejo Valley Unified School District.
