Lang Ranch Park deserves to be criticized In response to Mr. Ramsey's letter (Thousand Oaks Acorn, April 20), he really should do his homework before criticizing Jerry Langer and others who oppose the Lang Ranch Park project. As a Lang Ranch homeowner, I can accurately confirm that the builders did not disclose this park being built in the future. We had no knowledge of this massive facility until notification began appearing in the local newspapers. In retrospect, this information would have changed our choice of neighborhoods we considered when we purchased our home. Mr. Ramsey, get your facts straight. I, for one, am outraged at the size and scope that is in the plan for this misplaced proposal. This is certainly not a case of NIMBY. There are many credible factors that should be taken into consideration before going forward on a venue that has no place in a residential neighborhood. Aside from the noise factor, the traffic congestion and dangerous conditions that would accompany this project should be enough of a deterrent to change the location of this park. I also have great sympathy for the very expensive development that will overlook this park and see their property values tumble when they have to try to sleep with the sound of tennis balls bouncing, or skaters rumbling along, not to mention the glare of lights comparable to a football stadium. I do not know where Mr. Ramsey lives, but I am certain he is relieved that he will not have to endure the negative impact that this facility promises to deliver to the residents of Lang Ranch. I also resent his references to Linda Parks' supporters. This is not a political issue. The fact that Mrs. Parks really listen to her constituents and respects their quality of life is the reason she got elected in the first place. That is her job and I for one think she does it quite well. It would not hurt other elected officials to follow her lead-it just might restore a little honesty to local government. Fortunately, I will not be in the endless line of commuters trying to wind my way home on Westlake Boulevard only to double my drive time because of all the traffic this park will generate when spilling onto this street. Is there anyone in Thousand Oaks government who actually cares about what this will do to this beautiful area? There has to be a better place to put this park. Diane Glasser Thousand Oaks |
