The Conejo Valley Friendship Circle, a local nonprofit organization that pairs teenage volunteers with special needs children, raised almost $90,000 during its Walk-A-Thon on Sun., March 26. More than 600 people attended the event.

"We're amazed and very appreciative of the community's outpouring of support," said Rochel Bryski, director of The Friendship Circle. "The money raised will allow us to expand the program so more special needs kids can take part." Currently, 125 families in the

Conejo and west San Fernando valleys with special needs children participate and 250 teenagers volunteer. Children in the program have Down syndrome, autism, attention deficit disorder or other emotional or physical challenges.

"The Friendship Circle teens give the children unconditional love, companionship and friendship during weekly visits and group gatherings," said Bryski. "Both child and teen are touched by the special bond that forms."
