Noted Hispanic author to give reading California Lutheran University will host Martha Cerda, an author from Mexico, at 10 a.m. Mon., April 3 in the Preus-Brandt Forum on the CLU campus at 60 W. Olsen Road, Thousand Oaks. Sponsored by the Spanish Department as part of CLU's Artists and Speakers Series, Cerda's lecture will focus on women's literature. Cerda resides in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, where she was born. Before becoming a writer, she earned a law degree from the Universidad Autnoma de Guadalajara. Her writings have been published in Spanish in Mexico, Argentina and Spain and translated into almost all the languages of the European countries. They've been published in Italy, France, Greece and Norway, where she was invited to participate in the selection of the Universal Library together with fellow Mexican writer Carlos Fuentes. Translations of her works have been acclaimed by European critics and often appear on bestseller lists in Europe. Cerda will read from two of her best-known novels. Her readings in Spanish will be followed by the English translation. A question-andanswer session and book signing will follow the presentation. Admission is free.
