Highway 23: Where it begins (or ends)

LONELY SPOT NORTH OF FILLMORE--Many local residents know that Highway 23 (actually a freeway from Moorpark to the 101 Freeway in Thousand Oaks) terminates at Pacific Coast Highway west of Malibu. Known as Decker Canyon Road south of Thousand Oaks, Highway 23 is scenic, but it can cause sweaty palms for even experienced drivers. It's also a pretty drive through the mountains south of Fillmore, but again, a little challenging if you're just learning to drive. Here is where it begins (or ends, depending on how you look at it). It's Goodenough Road, north of Fillmore, where you then enter the Sespe Wilderness of the Los Padres National Forest. JANN HENDRY/Acorn Newspapers
