Academic performance index scores released

The California Department of Education recently released the 2005 Academic Performance Index (API) Base Reports, which include the Base APIs, Growth Targets and Statewide and Similar Schools ranking for nearly every public school in California as mandated by California's Public Schools Accountability Act.

Similar Schools are schools with compatible student populations.

The following Ventura County schools received both a Statewide rank of 10 and Similar Schools rank of 10:

Conejo Unified: Colina, Redwood and Sequoia middle schools

Moorpark Unified: Moorpark High School

Simi Valley: Santa Susana High School

In Ventura County, 35 schools scored in the top 10 percent of their state peers and 24 schools ranked in the top 20 percent of the state.

In the Similar School ranking, 20 Ventura County schools scored in the top 10 percent. These schools are as follows:

Moorpark Unified: Arroyo West Elementary, Campus Canyon Elementary, Mountain Meadows Elementary, Peach Hill Elementary, Walnut Canyon Elementary, Chapparal Middle, Mesa Verde Middle and Moorpark High

Conejo Unified: Colina, Redwood and Sequoia middle schools.

Simi Unified: Santa Susana High School

Of the 186 local API recipient schools that had sufficiently accurate date, 75 schools posted APIs of 800 or better, up from 33 percent last year

The highest base API for a middle school last year was 891 out of 1,000, earned by Redwood Middle School in the Conejo Valley Unified School District for the second year in a row.

Six school districts posted district-wide scores higher than the state target of 800, including Oak Park Unified and Moorpark Unified. Oak Park Unified, with a score of 880, had the second-highest district score.
