Mike and Pat Hanley
If every parent of the more than 2,400 students at Thousand Oaks High School put in the time and energy equivalent to that of realtors Pat and Mike Hanley, it would be the foremost high school in the nation. The Hanleys, MBAs, are agents with Prudential California Realty's North Ranch/Westlake Village branch and were recently awarded a PruCARES Volunteer Grant for their volunteer work in the community. The couple has written more than $70,000 in successful grants for Thousand Oaks High School, a formidable undertaking involving intricate detail and expertise.
Currently they co-chair the "Every 15 Minutes" program, a teenage drunk-driving awareness program at Thousand Oaks High. There are also in the process of writing grants for the school's badly-needed gym renovation. Other volunteer activities at the high school have included treasurer positions for the wrestling and track & field booster clubs.
The Hanleys enjoy watching their four athletic children compete. Mary and Matt, former Marmonte League throwing champions, currently throw shot put, hammer and discus for the award-winning Moorpark College track and field team. Their son, Michael, who is mildly autistic, competes on the Thousand Oaks wrestling team. Finally, their youngest son, Philip, competes in hurdles, shot put, long jump, high jump and sprints for the Thousand Oaks Flyers.
"We both have master's degrees in business administration. It is the reason we are so passionate about education," said the Hanleys.
