Joseph and Jules Walters of Westlake Village are the new owners of Serendipity Cheesecakes Bakery in Newbury Park. Joseph Walters had a career in corporate event production and Jules Walters, a graduate of Westlake Culinary Institute, had a catering business. Along with their three daughters they are operating Serendipity as a familyrun business.

Established in 2001 and known as a regional boutique bakery, Serendipity's signature item is its line of slow-baked cheesecakes. The Walters intend to continue this tradition and expand the bakery's product line. To this end they have renamed the bakery Serendipity Baking Company.

In addition to wedding and custom birthday cakes, etc., the store will serve coffee and pastry from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and as of May 1 a special lunch menu will be available.
