Join the CVD Grand Marshal race

Although the Conejo Valley Days Grand Marshal Race has begun, there's still time to join in, according to Scott Wolfe, Conejo Valley Days Grand Marshal Race chairperson.

"We're looking for service clubs or organizations seeking creative and fun ways to raise funds," said Wolfe. "If your club is new to the event, we'll guide you through the process. Your club will have the opportunity to raise a tremendous amount of money in a relatively short period."

Currently, "Tumbleweed" Tom Hartin of the Thousand Oaks Elks Club is the only candidate in the adult category. "Kelli The Kid" Scarangello is the entry for the Junior Grand Marshal.

"To make it a true race, we need multiple candidates," said Wolfe. "We don't want to make it too easy on the current candidates."

The contest continues until Thurs., April 27.

Candidates raise money through events such as silent auctions, dinners, wine-tastings and garage sales. The candidate who raises the most money for his or her selected charity by the end of the race is declared the CVD Grand Marshal.

The Grand Marshal will ride in a float in the CVD parade on Sat., May 6 down Thousand Oaks Boulevard and be part of the CVD five-day carnival and festival set for May 3 to 7 at Conejo Creek Park South.
