Donkey rescued from septic tank The Ventura County Fire Department was called to a home in the 200 block of Rosa Lane in Newbury Park to rescue a donkey that had fallen into a septic tank on March 13. After returning home from work, the animal's owner was walking Jenny, the donkey, at about 3 a.m. when the weight of the animal collapsed the top of a septic tank. The Ventura County Fire Department Urban Search and Rescue team responded from Camarillo, along with two units from the Thousand Oaks area and two battalion chiefs. Firefighters found Jenny wedged in the 4-foot cylindrical tank opening with only her head visible and her body buried in the tank's contents. After working Jenny up into the opening, firefighters were able to place a strap around the animal and remove her with a tripod and winch after two hours of entrapment. A veterinarian was called to evaluate Jenny, but the animal appeared unharmed. |
