Local cantor will perform in concert

Cantor Doug Cotler is the headliner in "Doug Cotler & Friends, Live in L.A." at 7 p.m. Sat., March 18 in the Scherr Forum Theater at the T.O. Civic Arts Plaza, 2100 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd.

Cotler will be joined by special guests, including singer/ songwriter Julie Silver, Cantor Kenny Ellis of Temple Beth Haverim in Agoura Hills and Cantor Mike Stein of Temple Aliyah in Woodland Hills.

The concert is a presentation of Congregation Or Ami in Calabasas.

A Grammy award-winning composer, singer, songwriter and musician, Cotler is known for his warm, expressive voice. His insightful and humorous songs about Jewish events and heroes have placed him in the forefront of contemporary Jewish music.

Cotler received a Grammy in 1984 for writing "Manhunt," a song featured in the "Flashdance" soundtrack.

He has toured with and played country, pop and rock music with such artists as John Denver, Jerry Jeff Walker and Mason Williams.

Cotler's symphony, "The Golem," has been performed by the Seattle Philharmonic.
