If you don't like the movies, stop buying the tickets I totally agree with the article on the Academy Awards in the March 9 Thousand Oaks Acorn. Movies used to encourage, uplift and entertain. Now all they do is degrade, demoralize and depress. True, the subject matter is real, but do we have to glamorize wrong choices and dangerous and immoral lifestyles? I don't think so. These movies don't deserve any awards at all. We as a people starved for entertainment have compromised our values and principles that this country was founded on. Hollywood shouldn't take all the blame. After all, they're supplying a need. If we would stop going to these movies (instead of complaining how bad they are), they would stop making them--wake up America! Hit them where their hearts are-in the pocketbook-and maybe we'll get back to basics. We have become people so politically correct that we are now morally bankrupt. It's true what they say: "If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything." Let's stand for decency in movies again. Dorothy Campagna Newbury Park |
