Nominations sought for Senior of the Year

Thousand Oaks has 1,200 senior adult volunteers who contribute their time to more than 80 nonprofit agencies, school and community organizations. Last year, the senior adults donated 275,000 volunteer hours and providing needed support to the community and organizations which rely on their services.

The city of Thousand Oaks Council on Aging (COA) will honor these volunteers at the annual Senior of the Year awards Ceremony and Social at 7 p.m. Thurs., June 1 at the Goebel Senior Adult Center. Mayor Dennis Gillette will recognize all nominees and present the award.

COA is now accepting nominations for this award. Qualified nominees must be more than 62 years old and have been a resident of Thousand Oaks for three of the past five years. Only volunteer service that benefits seniors in the community will be considered.

Nominations are due by Tues., April 11. All nominees will be interviewed by the COA selection committee.

Nomination forms and guidelines are available at the Thousand Oaks and Newbury Park libraries, Goebel Senior Adult Center, Welcome Desk at city hall or downloaded from the city website at www.toaks.org.
