Local dancers stand out in national competition
Students from the Academy of Dance and School of Performing Arts in Westlake Village won gold and high gold trophies at the Starbound National Talent Competition in Long Beach on Jan. 29.
The 34 dancers competed in 20 numbers, including jazz, tap, hip-hop and lyrical.
The senior dancers took first place overall in the group and duet/trio categories.
Among the junior soloists, Sami Simon received third place overall and Natalie Henry won second place overall.
Special judges awards were given to Natalie Henry for best attitude and Ahjalia Hall for most creative choreography.
Choreographers for the competition team were Ahjalia Hall, Jennifer Lettelleir, Asher Lewis, Amy Miller and school owner Lilly Alexander.
