Muslim woman to speak here

At its next free public forum from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wed., Feb. 22 at the Newbury Park Library, 2331 Borchard Road, the Global Exchange Ventura County supporters will host Dr. Laila AlMarayatim, a spokesperson and past president of the Muslim Women’s League, an L.A.-based organization dedicated to strengthening the role of Muslim women. She’s a professor at the USC School of Medicine.

Dr. Al-Marayati will be addressing issues about Muslim women.

Topics will include basic women’s rights in Islam, stereotyping, violence against women and the major challenges to address in attempts to enhance the role of Muslim women.
