Museum marks 15th anniversary

The Ventura County Maritime Museum will celebrate its 15th anniversary with a celebration on Presidents’ Day weekend, from Sat., Feb. 18 through Mon., Feb. 20, in the museum’s courtyard at Fisherman’s Wharf in Channel Islands Harbor, Oxnard.

Free activities and entertainment will include knot tying, whale drawing, and free crafts for children. Tall ship and marine life videos will run continuously in the museum’s Discovery Room.

The Maritime Museum Ship Model Guild will demonstrate wooden ship modeling techniques inside the museum, and provide the answer to “Just how does that ship get into the bottle?”

Other exhibitors include the Channel Islands Carvers woodcarving club and the Channel Islands Marine Sanctuary.

The Marine Education Center of Oxnard College will conduct hands-on marine biology activities and an open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

The Maritime Museum’s open house and all activities will be offered from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. All activities are open to the public and free of charge.
