The Thousand Oaks Library will present the following free programs next week. The library is at 1401 E. Janss Road.

At 7 p.m. Wed., Feb. 22 in the periodicals area, youth age 12 and up are invited to meet the editor and an illustrator from Tokyopop, the country’s largest publisher of “manga,” a type of Japanese graphic novel.

Editor Bryce Coleman and illustrator Armand Villavert Jr. will discuss this graphic novel format that’s popular in Japan and is gaining acceptance in the U.S. Attendees will find out what’s new in the world of manga and what it’s like “behind the scenes” at Tokyopop. A question and answer period will follow.

For information on this youth program, call the Children’s Information Desk at (805) 4492660, ext. 213.

“Google It,” a program about the Internet search engine’s features and specialized searching options, will be explored in two programs. The first will be from 10:15 to 11:45 a.m. Thurs., Feb. 23 at the Newbury Park Branch Library, 2331 Borchard Road, Newbury Park, and then repeated from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Mon., Feb. 27 at the Thousand Oaks Library.

Each program will demonstrate how Google can be used as a calculator, converter, translator, dictionary, search tool and more. Participants will learn basic and advanced search skills as well as how to interpret search results.
