Mardi Gras to help Community Conscience

2006-02-16 / Community

The 14th annual Mardi Gras Ball will be Sat., Feb. 25 at the Hyatt Westlake Plaza, 880 S. Westlake Blvd., Westlake Village.

A champagne reception and silent auction will kick off the black tie/Mardi Gras costume optional event at 6 p.m., with a four-course dinner to follow at 7:30 p.m.

This year’s Mardi Gras chairman and event master of ceremonies is attorney Ken Humphrey of Thousand Oaks, a longtime volunteer on the board of trustees of Community Conscience-Under One Roof, presenters of the ball. Local volunteer auctioneer Irish John Gore will conduct the Louisiana Live Auction.

A 2006 Lexus SC 430 sports car or a Lexus LS 400 sedan is a top raffle prize at $1,000 per ticket. For $100, supporters will have a chance to win a 2006 Ford Mustang convertible or for another $100 donation, a 40" LCDHD television set. “As a special bonus,” said Humphrey, “patrons purchasing the $1,000 Lexus tickets will get a free ticket for the draw on the Mustang and the TV.”

Only 150 tickets will be sold on the Lexus, 500 on the Mustang, and 200 on the TV. Winners may accept cash in lieu of the prizes.

The Mardi Gras King and Queen are two longtime community volunteers: Jean Heister of Hospice of the Conejo and Irish John Gore of the Thousand Oaks Kiwanis Club.

Tickets for the event are $125 or a table for 10 may be purchased for $1,000. Call (805) 494-3543 for more information and tickets.

All monies will go towards paying off the Under One Roof building, a structure in Thousand Oaks that houses 14 local community service offices, including Hospice, Catholic Services, Conejo Free Clinic, Jewish Federation Agencies, and more.
