Mixed-media show to open at Civic Arts Plaza

The Thousand Oaks Arts Commission is hosting an artist reception to kick off a new mixed-media exhibition from 4 to 6 p.m. Sun, Feb. 12 in the Founders Room of the Fred Kavili Theatre for the Performing Arts at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. The public is invited.

The mixed-media exhibit features the artistic vision of six international artists, three husband-and-wife teams who have, over the years, formed a network based on friendship and art.

Local artists Esther and Mohammad (Ali) Alinejad became friends with Aiko and Osamu Mochizawa as students at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. The Alinejads went to Kyoto, Japan to help the Mochizawas teach an art workshop, and the couples talked about exhibiting their work together at some time.

Later, Ali Alinejad taught a ceramics workshop at the University of Tehran and renewed a friendship with Homayoun Alimi, professor of painting. Alimi’s wife, Lida, is also an artist. All three couples were interested in participating in a group exhibit.

The show at the Civic Arts Plaza will continue through March 20. For more information, call (805) 449-2767.
