Free program reveals truth in recruitment, alternatives to military

Attorney Barbara Macri-Ortiz and Jochen Strack of the American Friends Service Committee will speak on “Truth in Recruiting and Alternatives to the Military” in a free public program at 7 p.m. Wed., Sept. 14 at the Newbury Park Library, 2331 Borchard Road, Newbury Park.

Macri-Ortiz will address students’ First Amendment rights and school discipline issues.

Strack will discuss why military recruitment is an issue, especially for spiritually minded people. He will also discuss why students enlist, current practices of military recruiters on campus and how citizens may respond to military recruitment in schools.

This event is presented by the Global Exchange Supporters of Ventura County, who are dedicated to presenting local monthly public forums and activities supporting social and economic justice, human rights and ecological sustainability.
