Theatricum to present free stage readings
The Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum will stage readings of three new plays this month as part of its ongoing development series for playwrights called “Botanicum Seedlings.” All readings will be at 11 a.m.

Sundays and admission is free.

The plays to be performed this month include “The Garden of Dromore” by James McLindon on June 5, “An Impending Rupture of the Belly” by Matt Pelfrey on June 12 and “Women and Horses and a Straight Shot From the Bottle” by Mary F. Casey on June 19.

“The Garden of Dromore” This work contemplates truth, faith and redemption in light of the sexual abuse scandals plaguing the Roman Catholic Church.

Set in 2000, just before the story broke in Boston, the drama uses a healthy dose of humor to take an intimate look at one Irish-Catholic family dealing with public and personal betrayals after their son is molested by a priest.

“An Impending Rupture of the Belly” In today’s hyper-vigilant and ultra-violent society, what happens to the beaten-down everyman who finally decides to fight back?

With a distinctly contemporary and darkly comic twist, the edgy realism in this play becomes surreal when lines are drawn in the suburban sand, and then crossed.

“Women and Horses and a Straight Shot From the Bottle” This fable is filled with the American West, traveling across time and space to tell the story of hard-luck women who are chased by demons and racing against the rodeo clock to find resolution, until the minute-hand of fate steps in.

The Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum is at 1419 N. Topanga Canyon Blvd., Topanga. No reservations are necessary. For information call (310) 455-3723.
