T.O. woman active in Assistance League
Thousand Oaks resident Althea Kapur will serve in her capacity as president of Assistance League of San Fernando Valley for an additional year. A chapter of National Assistance League, the all-volunteer group is dedicated to supporting a number of projects that benefit children and older adults.

Among the projects the group supports is Operation School Bell, which distributes clothing, shoes, toiletries, backpacks and other items to children in need. Sixteen elementary schools are served by the group, whose members often tutor some of the schoolchildren.
Assistance is also provided to victims of rape and to children and adults facing traumatic situations.
In addition, the chapter is active in helping improve the quality of life for seniors and Alzheimer’s patients and their caregivers.
Other officers elected for the 2005-06 year include Hermalee Schmidt, Karen Crandall, Jeanette Devine, Preeti Hajela, Irene Orme, Nancy Bragg, Lori Norwalt and Ann Cameron.
